The event at the "Master" Congress Center was officially opened by Dr. Nenad Ivanišević, Provincial Secretary for Economy and Tourism. On that occasion, he emphasized that profit should always be considered, but not at any cost. He also mentioned the cycling paths that Novi Sad is known for.
"I’m glad that Novi Sad is investing in cycling paths, which are important, and I would like us to think together about having even more of them, especially on Fruška Gora. I know that investors won’t be too thrilled with the idea, but I would love for us to reach a point where we have more parking spaces tied to every housing unit that is built. I know that makes things more expensive, but in the long run, it actually makes them cheaper—just think how much time you lose because you can’t find a parking spot or get from point A to B efficiently," said Dr. Nenad Ivanišević, among other things.
"After the first conference, our Secretariat incorporated energy efficiency as a scoring criterion for awarding funds. It now gets special points in evaluations. Please help us come up with new criteria. I think Serbia is the most beautiful country in the world, and all of you, together with me, are responsible for ensuring that it becomes that in the future," Ivanišević stressed.
During his speech, he also proposed dedicating a day at next year’s conference to Sremski Karlovci.
"We all need help to bring Sremski Karlovci back to the place it deserves... The principle of roundtable negotiation was first applied in Sremski Karlovci to symbolize the equality of all participants in a discussion. I think that’s an important message—that we’re all equal when we sit down to talk and, ultimately, we need to learn to listen to each other more," Ivanišević added.
Following the official opening, the panels began with the topic:
"Balancing Profit, Financing, and Architecture: How to Create a Sustainable and Profitable Project?"
The second panel focused on Construction Openings and Energy Efficiency, addressing questions such as: Should we invest in PVC for its excellent thermal insulation, aluminum for its durability and aesthetics, or in hybrid systems that combine the best of both materials?
The third panel, Smart Construction: Integration of Smart Technologies and Sustainable Materials, explored how combining smart technologies with sustainable materials is transforming modern construction by improving energy efficiency, functionality, and environmental sustainability of buildings.
The fourth topic of the day was Renovation or Demolition: Waste as a Resource in Sustainable Construction, examining the dilemma between renovating or demolishing buildings, with a special focus on treating construction waste as a valuable resource in green building practices.
On the second day, three more panels will be held.
The panel "Aluminum and Glass in Modern Architecture" will explore how the combination of glass and aluminum systems contributes to improved thermal insulation, reduced energy consumption, and enhancement of the functional and aesthetic features of buildings, as well as how innovations in this area align with increasingly strict ecological and energy standards.
How Do Large Projects Change the Urban Landscape?
Major investment projects are reshaping the appearance of cities and setting new standards for urban development, but they also raise questions about their true sustainability and compliance with green building principles.
"The Future of the Architectural Profession in Serbia" will be the final panel, offering answers to questions such as: While laws, regulations, and standards in the profession are clearly defined, do we respect them enough? What the architectural community needs to reintroduce is the ethical code. Ethics and defining relationships within the profession are key to laying new foundations for the future of architecture in Serbia.
